Windows & Doors

Product testing is conducted by ERC Testing at our purpose built test facility in Leigh, while final data review then test report issue will be by TÜV Rheinland Nederland.

PAS 24: 2016

Enhanced security test methods and other product related information required for products to show compliance to Approved Document Q. Compliance is also a requirement for companies requiring membership of the Secured by Design scheme.

Made up of 3 Annexes:
A - Security hardware & cylinder test and assessment.

  • provides a method of testing resistance to manual attack of door furniture, hardware, locks and cylinders.
  • assesses the vulnerability of a cylinder to an attack using knowledge, skill and professional ability.

B - Enhanced security performance requirements for doorsets.

  • assesses the ability of a doorset to resist manual and mechanical loading. Entry is gained when a 50mm wide cylinder can pass through the sample.

C - Specification for enhanced security performance of windows.

  • assesses the ability of a window to resist manual and mechanical loading. Entry is gained when a 50mm wide cylinder can pass through the sample.

Individual tests specified in Annex B & Annex C:
Manipulation Test – used to establish that there is no inherent vulnerability in the design. A manual attack using hand tools listed in the standard.

Infill Manual Test – Using hand tools listed in the standard attempt to remove gaskets, beads, security devices and the infill medium from the exterior face of the glazing system.

Infill Medium Removal Test – by use of a controlled and specified mechanical load which is applied to every corner of any infill medium.

Manual Cutting Test – Attempt to cut a hole through the sample of any non-glass infill so that a 50mm cylinder (Zone 1 - 400mm above and below unlocking hardware) or a cylindroid 225mm x 380mm (Zone 2 – any point not in Zone 1) can pass freely through the sample

Mechanical Loading Test – Assess whether the sample can withstand a specified sequence of loading without creating an entry. Loads are applied in 2 directions with aim of disengaging hardware and of forcing the sash open.

Manual Check Test – a manual check to explore the possibility that there might be weaknesses in the product that are not covered in the standard cases.

In addition, under Annex B doorsets are also tested
Soft Body Impact Test – assess the doorset’s resistance to impact using a soft body striking the leaf between 0.8m and 1.7m above floor level.

Hard Body Impact Test – assess the hardware, infill medium and its retention system to hard body impact

EN 14351 / BS 6375

BS 6375 is a national application document for EN 14351. Part 1 specifies the exposure categories related to test pressure levels for air permeability, watertightness and wind resistance for external windows and doorsets.

Individual tests are:

  • Air Permeability – Tested in accordance with EN 1026 and classified in accordance with EN 12207.
  • Watertightness – Tested in accordance with EN 1027 and classified in accordance with EN 12208.
  • Resistance to Wind – Tested in accordance with EN 12211 and classified in accordance with EN 12210.

Part 2 specifies requirements to ensure that windows and doors have performance appropriate to the level of duty they will undergo on installation.

Main individual tests are:

  • Operating forces - Tested in accordance with EN 12046 (part 1 for windows or part 2 for doorsets) and classified in accordance with EN 13115 for windows or EN 12117 for doorsets.
  • Mechanical strength – various individual tests conducted.
  • Impact resistance – Tested in accordance with EN 13049 (for windows) or EN 949 & EN 950 (for doorsets)
  • Resistance to repeated opening and closing – Tested in accordance with EN 1191 and classified in accordance with EN 12400.

Part 3 calls up various standards and refers to various specific requirements.

Our main functions include

Testing of safety glass (toughened & laminated) eg EN 12150, EN 12600
